I usually am the person who ends up writing the giant posts about this stuff, but for some reason I'm just being type-lazy xD But completely agree with everything going on here. I do a lot of gender/women's/queer studies AT RELIGION SCHOOL. I mean, lol, I have nothing against atheism, I'm not saying this as an insult, but I'm not the atheist trying to like, subvert Christian morals or anything. If anything, I'd like to think of myself as the Christian pushing and expanding theological and social views from Christian literature, tradition, scripture etc. I was just in my Martyrdom course reading the Martyrdom of Perpetua and Felicitas and these are real saints, and they were ready to go naked into the arena to subvert the hierarchical gender/class culture. In her dreams, Perpetua becomes male, like this stuff EXISTS EVERYWHERE and still people have the ideas that women should sit quietly in church and never ask questions and not braid their hair and dress super modestly because men just won't be able to resist us.

And like Amy and Leah have touched on... what about the people who CAN'T wait until marriage because they can't get married in the majority of the United States because they're of the same sex. That issue bothers me the most, btw >> Queer studies is one of my biggest passions And people who just don't want to get married. Or people who want to love more than one person. Marriage is just such a restrictive goal >> there are so many ways to love and be in relationships and it's just one, very narrow way.

Yeah, I'm so ashamed of my body that I sometimes look in the mirror and say "dang, I'm hotter than a lot of females on the planet".  Serioulsy, I am NOT humble when it comes to my appearance.  I think I'm hot.  I'm just modest and would never want a whole bunch of strangers of the world to see me walk nude along the streets.

and I take into consideration so much what my church has taught me, that half the time I didn't even pay attention when I did go, I only went to play in the band most of the time, I haven't been back since I was 19, and currently I have no idea if I even believe in God.  But... I love what a lot of my new church teaches, that I just started going to again, about character and morals and relationships and it saddens me to see all that go out the window, especially with young people.

We have laws against nudity for a reason.  If you don't like it, take it up with the law.  I really fail to see what the problem is.  Again, women have been liberated.  You want them to be sexless now, too?  Heaven forbid should we look at a woman and think of sex?  I got news for you, human beings are sexual....and women are beautiful.  Would you want your future daughter to walk around in public naked?  Why do think mother's want their teen girls to dress modestly?  Women still have a far higher chance of getting raped than a man does.  It's like, I'm sorry you were born female, but it's just a fact of life? 

I'm done with this thread now.  I'm not even sure how to respond to any of this anymore and I still don't get what the point is. 

I watched the Erykah Badu video this afternoon and if she wants to do that, that's her right, but personally, I think it was really stupid and would be humiliating to me.  I have no idea what you are trying to say anymore bigheadsucks.  Women can't take their shirts off because they have boobs and men don't.  If you think it's so great, then you go strip in pubiic.  More power to you, I guess?  If you wanna have no dignitry or modesty and wanna defend it like it's just a form of "art" and make a big deal about it and turn it into some major thing about women not be respected or whatever...I really don't think that's the case.  Yes, the media glorifies sex...but if you read in the bible, men are built to be attracted to a woman's body.  I used to get so upset at my church for expecting women to not dress trashy because it distracts the men, but the same goes for the men in my old church.  They are also supposed to dress modestly.  Women are beautiful.  Period.  I just made a post replying to someone else, it was a bit off topic, but basically it was saying how I walk around the world seeing so many ugly men and women are just visually more pleasing to look at and I'm a girl and I'm not a lesbian by any means.  Girls are just pretty, though.  Anyway....I'm gonna get off my soap box now.  I think Erykah Badu's point was a bit exaggerated and I don't understand what you are trying to say anymore.  Women have been liberated, we can work, we can make as much as men now, but they still have boobs that should be clothed. 

I would have been so embarrassed if I were Erykah Badu.  Especially with all those people around. 

i watched the video right before i read that post, and i was trying to figure out why people were so ANGRY about what she did... and i hope those people get to see that post. it really brought it home, like, "yeah, that's pretty much IT. yep."

funny how a kid can just hit the nail on the head like that, while the rest of us adults are running around in a panic, LOL.
