The Kings of Bop

Man, we must really be getting old. It seems like only yesterday that ISAAC, TAYLOR and ZAC HANSON burst onto the music scene with the catchy tune "MMMBop," which fit in nicely between grunge and the bubblegum pop of 'N Sync and the Backstreet Boys. That was six years ago, when the blond trio was 16, 13 and 11, respectively.

Hanson is back, all grown up and sporting a mature look (the blond locks are shorn, folks). The brothers are on tour performing acoustic versions of songs from their upcoming album "Underneath," which features collaborations with CAROLE KING and MATTHEW SWEET, among others. So, why the hiatus? "A lot of different elements came into play," said Taylor, who at 20 is now married with a kid. "But in the end it was, `We are excited to be who we are right now, where we are in our lives and now, we have the right record.'"

Tickets for Hanson's upcoming Wednesday show at Schuba's sold out in six minutes. And music insiders always thought they stood out from the other boy bands. "We've always done the same thing," Taylor told Armour & Co. "We've always been three guys that write and play and only put out records that we feel really passionate about. But there definitely are some major textural changes on this album that makes it sound different than the ones we've done in the past."
