Africa #2
This is the third shoe drop, unfortunately I did not have my camera at the other two. Each set of children is so different from the next, some come up and hug you, some keep at a distance, some you are not sure if they like the shoes or not. This drop was small, around 40 kids, and maybe that is what made it feel so good. When the numbers are smaller, you have a chance to sit down and play and talk with each kid, and they have a chance to make you smile.

Africa #1
The flight to South Africa is a long one; we have had the unfortunate privilege of taking even longer flights before, but that does not make this one any shorter. The only good thing about long plane flights is catching up on the movies you never wanted to see, or never had time to see.
There is something different going back to Africa a year and a half later. I think it is the fact that we are coming with something to give back. TOMS is doing great things, and we have been a part of it, and the money that has been coming in from Great Divide is being put to use. Still I know it is still too small. I know I will never feel like the amount is enough, because for the foreseeable future, there will always be needs to fill. Still we take things one step at a time, or we will all give up hope.

The Power Of Action
Yesterday we spent the day visiting the DD Dilwayo school from Soweto. Kids from this school were the ones that sang on the songs Great divide Been There Before and Blue Sky. We spent most of the day visiting with students and teachers in classrooms that are so packed with kids they have to climb over their desks to sit down. They are privately funded so they inch by on shared chalk and notebooks. The children break pencils in half to accommodate the number of students in the classroom. After leaving, we all felt so inspired by the work the teachers are doing regardless of the conditions they face, so inspiring. We have visited a few schools on this trip while delivering shoes with TOMS, but this school was unlike the others. It was vibrant and filled with hope.
