Technically, every song can take me back to an awesome part of my life. But I was just curious what album(s) hold special places in your hearts. :)

The last two albums that played on my iTunes (completely and weirdly random) are "Throwing the Game" - Lucky Boys Confusion (2001) and "Take This to your Grave" - Fall Out Boy (2003).

Makes me miss high school and going to all those shows; thinking i was awesome for being so "not mainstream"!! (Yeah, Chicago bands! Little did I know, right?)  Being old so far is no fun. Dislike!

Good question, I love threads like this that make you think and you get to hear everyone else's stories....One album that makes me nostalgic is ironically enough The Walk by Hanson because it reminds me of that point in my life when I thought I had the whole world within my reach once I graduated college and of the perseverance I had to go through to get there. I think every Hanson album has a special significance as to certain times in my life, when I think about it. lol

In terms of other artists, I'd have to say that Shania Twain's UP is another one, as well as an album called CD00 from this Spanish pop group called OV7....there are so many others, but I can't think of them at the moment!!!

~I think it's high time that Hanson be featured on the cover of the Rolling Stone!~

Underneath Acoustic always reminds me of a boy that I had/still have a MAJOR crush on. I started talking to him a few weeks before I went to the Chicago show. Ahh, humble beginings. <3 <3 <3 In fact, when I told him I was buying tickets to a Hanson concert, he thought I wasn't being serious! I remember saying, "Hanson is awesome. Deal with it." ahhhahahaha.

Hmm... Nostalgia. This is a good thread!! I do have to throw up a Hanson album, but it's Middle of Nowhere because the summer of 97 was awesome. I was 13, life was great, I'd just discovered "my own" music... So when I listen to it, I definitely smile.

Another would be "Rainy Day Music" by the Jayhawks. I listened to it SOOO much driving home from work in Baton Rouge about 4 1/2 years ago. Same thing with Bob Dylan's "Desire".

The Beatles "White Album" doesn't remind me of the sixties... it makes me nostagic for college! We read an essay that basically asks the reader, "Can an album define a generation?"

I thought about that essay a lot and occasionally still do. Can an album define a generation? Much like wondering if a teacher can change a students life. I suppose both, if done right, are incredibly thought provoking.

the first CD that i ever owned "Big Ones" by Aerosmith.

not only was this what really began to shape my musical tastes, but my grandfather bought it for me after my parents told me I couldn't have it, so I get a little emotional thinking about him (odd i think of my grandfather while listening to Dude Looks Like a Lady huh? haha)

nice! very deep and thoughtful.

I think a really great album, such as the "White Album" will not only be important to that generation, but keep reappearing in the following generations and remain relevant despite the changing musical interests.

have you ever wondered when we are like, fifty, what are the oldies stations going to be playing?? I feel sad for the next generations that grow up thinking 50 cent is comparable to Rolling Stones or Run DMC even. (don't get me wrong, 50 cent has some catchy songs, but they certainly aren't "classics" ya know?)

Green Day "Dookie"

Jamie Cullum "Twentysomething"

Jonny Lang "Long Time Coming"

and of course... Underneath and Middle of Nowhere. :)

OH! and John Mayer "Georgia."  I was such a confused mess when that song came out.  It was exactly what I needed.  Smile

This Time Around (for various reasons).

"The first music that you really fall in love with is more than just music." Taylor says, "Its something that clicks in you, beyond the song, it's a message or image that causes you to jump in and not let go."-(Taylor Hanson)

I read it in a book that had a compilation of essays which is "The Next American Essay"  edited by John D'Agata.

The essay is appropriately titled "The White Album" and is written by Joan Didion. If you google it, she has a book titled The White Album, but I think it is a compilation of HER essays. Let me know if you find it? Maybe I can type it up for you if you're really interested. Smile
