So with another Yahoo chat starting tonight, I was wondering, who used to chat in c_hanson:1 back in the day?

I was dyin2balive (Katie).

I met Kirstin (chiquita_pimpin) and Mary (hotchics_563) in Vancouver in september, which is crazy b/c we'd been chatting since 98. I talked to Taylor about it when I was hanging out with them, because they were like "you two know each other?" to me & Mary and we tried explaining about the Hanson chat, and they had NO idea what we were talking about!! I guess Hanson was way too busy and popular back then to have time to know about their chat stuff. lol.

what were your names if you did chat?

Yeah when I turned 15 back in '98 we did a dairy queen cake with the Hanson MON symbol on it in orange. Was pretty awesome.

To lose the weight I've put on from writing my thesis, lol, to FINISH that thesis on time and to somehow have enough money to get into Cambridge... *sigh*

Hey guys, I promised that I'd post pics of my Hanson ornaments. The first was made in 1998 and the second in 2000. They go up every year on my dad's xmas tree, and if I don't make it home in time, he'll keep them on the mantle for me to put up when I make it home for the Holidays.I might make a new one, with an actual photo of me and Taylor (I don't have one of just me with all 3; the m&g photo is way too big!).

1998 Ornament #1

1998 Ornament #2

2000 Ornament 1

2000 Ornament 2

Enjoy!

I find it funny that you mention how cheap it is to build an African school, and then brought up all the money the US spends on roads & infrastructure.. but look how much Americans pay athletes!! 90 million dollar 3 year contracts to baseball players? REALLY? for ONE person? That's utterly ridiculous. What about the poor people in America on foodstamps and welfare? Yet one athlete can make like 30 million a year? That's disgusting. It's not that bad here in canada at all (it's much  more socialist) but the world needs to figure this out. It's getting beyond ridiculous.

I just read it... and wow. I cried a few times. Great narrative and great photography. I asked Hanson about being fathers and their experience in Africa on TV in September, and reading the book answered my question far better than Taylor did when put on the spot that day. In the book he talked a lot more about comparing his children at home to the situations he faced during their 3 trips to Africa.

Here's my link to my question for them on TV:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DrNMKGyFoKQ

Now that I've read the book, I understand his answer a lot better. I really respect them for being able to go over there and face such horrible (yet hopeful) scenes and horrible reality, and to be able to return and do something about it so effectively. Knowing me, I would have just cried the whole time I was there. I'm glad that Hanson give us the opporunity to do something that, no matter how small, helps people who need it a lot more than we do.

With the gross extravagence that Christmas throws at us, the reality of how disgustingly unnecessary most of it is hits close to home after I read that book. We need to prioritize and get to the basics so that other people can simply have what is needed to live, not what is "needed" to be entertained or wear the hottest trends, as Westerners do. "I need a Prada bag" and other disfigurements of the word "need" sound absolutely disgusting to me right now. What we NEED to do is help those around us that actually NEED the basics to live by, whether it be fresh water, shoes, food, or shelter.

Instead of making selfish New Years resolutions such as "I need to lose weight" (once again the word "need" comes to play), why not try to do more for your community or others? Volunteer at an old folks home where they have no family to visit them, or donate canned goods, or money through hanson.net? Volunteer for literacy campaigns, etc. What we "need" and what we "want" run far too close together in our society.

Sorry to rant on, but the book really got me thinking...Let's all try to do our part, the little things, to make a difference to others.

Katie.

YES! I heard Hanson almost everytime I was out in a mall or a store, then I put up my Hanson ornaments (i'll have pics up this weekend), then Jack Frost was on 3 times yesterday (only watched it once for my nephew) then today when I was Boxing Day shoe shopping (Canadian shopping day!) Hanson's "Merry Christmas (Baby, Please Come HOme) came on and my 3 year old nephew was like "Taylor!" hahahah. Then we made him dance to it with my mom. Funny.

Lots of Hanson!

Heard it at The Bay today (big canadian department store.) What's funny is, I haven't been to the Bay that much this year, but last time I went the 2nd song I heard was "Go" and the time before that I heard "Georgia" then today 2nd or 3rd song I heard was "Run RUn Rudolph."

The Bay must really love Hanson!

I think Ike is hilarious, actually. He's always been. Zac started off pretty crazy and funny but he's slowed it down now, and Taylor has his moments, but he's always been the most grounded lol.

Definitely Ike!

If you can't find it, it's on the homepage when you first get on h.net, on the right hand side under "Blog". Not sure if it's different for non-members than members, but it's called "Note to Walkers".

A Note To Walkers

My New Family Addition - A Further Inspiration

Activism

Taylor

<!--StartFragment-->

We have been blown away as we have seen the walks that continue to be posted on TTW.net and hosted across the US and the world.

In the cold in small and large towns, many of you have taken the banner of the walks to new heights, THANK YOU.

I am especially inspired by the walks in our own town Tulsa - during a time when I have been laying low to welcome a new person into our family and the world. It encourages me to see such leadership right here at home.

Keep walking, and a warm Happy Holidays to all.

-TAYLOR

I just started watching the first season of Family Guy last night and I finally saw the episode where Peter kills Hanson. So funny!

He didn't kill them. I thought what happened is that Meg as sittingon the front step and a white van with "Hanson" on the side pulls up to the house, and the 3 boys get out and say that they're lost.

Meg starts freaking out because she loves them, and Peter goes 'Oh my GOD It's the children of the the corn!" grabs his shotgun and starts shooting at them and they run away, then Meg gets upset and cries and runs into the house lol..

Oh by the way, I saw an interview on this --- Ike and Zac think that they're hilarious when Family guy mentions them but Taylor said: "Yeah speak for yourselves!" and looked really pissed off, haha.

I don't think it's fair to make fun of the name at all. You wouldn't like someone saying that you chose a bad name for your own baby, would you? Not to mention the names might mean something to them that we don't know about, so it's personal. You can't judge someone for that.

but isn't Moriah a girl's name???? lol

Like I said in the member's part, Moriah is the name of the city of the dwarves in Lord of the Rings, so it's not necessarily a girl name at all. I kind of like it.

I'm sorry I was flipping through the channels and heard Everybody Else and it ended up being the new 90210, and it's the song "Without You"!! I'm stoked, it's still going in the background! lol

I know it's not Hanson, but they're inseperable from them this year!!
