Walk in Portland

Starting today, we began a new phase. Now every mile walked by any individual counts in a different way. Everyone that takes a walk and registers their mile is being included in The Walk Around The World- which can be monitored at TakeTheWalk.net. For every mile walked, we are donating a dollar on your behalf to one of five causes - medical access for AIDS treatemnt ,medical care for AIDS treatment,shoes,Education, and Water. In addition you can host a walk of your own through TTW.net, or donate directly to the cause you choose..... Walk Anecdote for today - As we were coming to the middle of the walk, we moved toward a patch of green grass where we had planned to pause and say a few words to the hundreds of walkers. As we came closer I could see there was no way to get higher up in order to be seen by the whole crowd when speaking. I said facetiously "I just need somebody to let me stand on their back for a minute". I was kidding of course cause I would not ask someone to do that. As I was finishing my sentence a dude walking with us volunteered to let me stand on his back, I brushed it off saying "it's ok man you don't really want to do that". He responded saying "no I really want to, I have a strong back I can do it". In that moment he handed his camera to a friend and kneeled down on the grass, trying to make a firm stance. i could not believe it, but I was able to vault onto his back, and get where everyone at the walk could see and hear. Thanks to my new friend who did what he could with what he had, ...now that is what the walk is all about. You all inspire us. We are looking forward to our next mile. We had an amazing group in Portland, we had 249 registered walkers. Check out TTW.net later today for the next update on the walk around the world. Thanks for sharing that Taylor. It's nice to know that you will be donating money on our behalfs! Also, I think a good idea would be for someone to have a bucket or something during the walks for people to donate a bit of their own money during the walks, since some people don't like to use thair debit/credit card online... Just a thought. And I think that guy is amazing by the way! I hope you kept your speach short for the poor guy! lol ______________________________________ |

Thanks to my new friend who did what he could with what he had, ...now that is what the walk is all about. Great way to sum it up. Can't wait to take the walk again with you guys in a couple of weeks. |

It was great seeing that many people taking the walk in Portland. That guy was awesome for letting you stand on his back. I had no idea until after you were done talking that you were standing on his back. It just shows you the kind of people there are in the Pacific NW. Even after the walk I was walking back to my car and this guy was asking me what was going on, he couldn't believe there was a Hanson concert but he thought that it was great that there was this walk for a cause. Thanks for coming to Portland Hanson and thanks for putting on such a great show for us. We've missed you guys :) |
