Tulsa -- what's it like?

Hi -- I'm new to the forum.  How's it going?

I might be taking a job in Tulsa, but I've never been there.  Does anyone live there or has anyone ever been there?  How are the people, cost of living, neighborhoods, local businesses, attractions, or anything else of interest?

It would be awesome if the brothers Hanson would answer this post, but I know better than to expect that.  They have better things to do than read and reply to the forum.... y'know, like spending time with their families and writing awesome music.  *lol*

I think Tulsa would be a great place to live in, I was there with friends back in 04.

First of all to get to Tulsa threw those tole booths are kinda exspensive but otherwise the city is big and everything is nicely spread out and there are lots to do and see.

The people in Tulsa come off as friendly but a few can be mean but you get that everywhere. Its no surprise. The one down fall is that most people there drive like idiots but then again who knows non of us can drive properly .

The bars in Tulsa are pretty nice and some are kinda junky but that to you get every where to.

Tippins restrant and the Sonic are great places to eat at, hopefully there exist yet.

Guess thats it for now, and ps. don't stalk Hanson !!!! Just kidding, you proubly wouldn't do that anyways. You sound mature anyways.

If you have any more questions, pm me and I can see what I can do.

Oh and living is kinda cheap there and I can see why to.

Some roads in Oklahoma are very crappy and the back roads are either dirt or gravel and that is why its cheaper to live in Oklahoma is my guess. I would like to live in Oklahoma myself one day but who knows if that happens. Well guess this is it for now.

I live in tulsa, and have my whole life. i personally love it.  tulsa is pretty big and spread out, and all parts of the town are different. south tulsa, where i live, is newer and is expanding all the time. like every week something new pops up. midtown and downtown are definetly more urban and more senic, and there are alot more ma and pa shops.  and then theres north tulsa, and you probably don't want to go there. its considered the "bad" part of town.

the crime rate however is on the lower end. the traffic is terrible around 5. but gas is on the cheaper end than most places in the country.

depending on what part of town you live in depends on the living rate. downtown and midtown are more expensive just because its older. not the whole town is "cheap" though. just north tulsa really.

alot of the steets are ridden with pot holes, but they are trying to fix all of that within the next few years...

and we are getting a new convention center that is hopefully going to bring life back to downtown. i know the american idol tour is already set to come, and the eagles will be playing the first show there. and the so you think you can dance tour is coming, which i am super excited about!!  haha

and sonic, like some one else mentioned, is great! i go there all the time. its fast food, but you can get really good shakes and smoothies and things like that. but tippins closed, and i don't think its opened anywhere else.

haha that was long, but i hoped it helped!

ps. i personally have never seen hanson just out and about, everybody else i know has though..but i see their mom and zoe a lot, cause zoe dances at my dance studio. ive seen their house and where 3cg is, but never them...

I live in Tulsa, and I love it.

It's easy to get around, but there is not much night life-- you really have to go downtown to get any sort.  Like any city there is a good side of town and a bad side of town, but they both have their ups and downs.  Pretty much anything you need is at 71st and Memorial (you will learn both of those streets VERY quickly)  You're actually a little better living a bit outside of Tulsa-- Claremore, Broken Arrow, Sand Springs, Bixby, Owasso-- It is a little quieter, but really doesn't take much more time to get any where because highways run from everywhere.

Cost of living is actually really good-- gas here right now is $3.87, which is better than most of the country.

I'm sorry to say, but please dont' listen to the people that have just visited here.  It is a nice place to live and work.

We're about 4 1/2 hours away from Dallas, about 1 1/2 away from OKC, easy travel.  LOTS of restaurants, good sports events (even though we have no Major teams from any sport here), the new BOK (Bank of Oklahoma) arena is set to open VERY soon as livelovelearnlife said.

There is plenty to do and reall,y is a great place to live.  I can't wait to start my family here in a few years... Tulsa is a good place to raise kids =)

Good luck!

Cindy

I personally like Tulsa, but then again, it's like the cleaner, much nicer version of where I live right now. There are some really pretty areas and some areas that it's best to just not really travel in to. I'm just happy their part of the Arkansas River has water! Our part doesn't!

The cost of living is cheaper there than here. A townhome that costs about $960 here (3 bedroom, hardwood floors, etc.), I found one down in Tulsa that was much similar for about $690 (which is the price for a 2 bedroom here!) The sales tax is a little high for my liking, too, but I'm used to one of the lower sales taxes in the US (Our's is at 6.8% and Wichita's is 6.3%). Tulsa's is like 8.something%. I did hear though, that they don't charge tax on something...I keep thinking it was clothing, but I honestly can't remember.

Kansas Street Team Goal: Sell out WICHITA!

Going to Wichita (11/7) for my Birthday!!

Nope.. tax on everything-- except on the weekend before school starts at the mall-- most stores do a no tax weekened.  It's a really nice discount, especially when you find stuff on clearance =P

The ecnomy here in tulsa is not that great. I am working 2 jobs and barley making it. Other than that I love the city. People are nice. But I would have to say that tulsa drivers suck.

My best friend lives in Tulsa and I love it!  Being in Dallas which is very fast-paced, Tulsa has a much more chill atmosphere while still having some city benefits (decent shopping, restaurants, etc.)  I find the country aspects of Tulsa refreshing and there is a nice combination of new-old neighborhoods etc.  The only downside is that many of the roads out to neighboring areas (Broken Arrow etc.) are one lane each way, which once you get used to isn't bad but at first it can be annoying! Most people I have come across are very friendly with Southern manners - there is a mix of those who have lived there their whole life, new grads (OU and OSU), young and families. I try to go up there to visit every chance I get, so don't let Tulsa scare you away from the job!
